JURY AWARDS INJURED PASSENGER OVER $2.3 MILLION AFTER FIVE DAY TRIAL IN UNINSURED MOTORIST CLAIM WEST PALM BEACH, FL.— After a five day trial in Palm Beach County Court, Spencer Kuvin, associate attorney and Ted Leopold, managing partner of the consumer justice firm of Ricci~Leopold, recovered more than $2.3 million for Gerald Scoggins, a resident of Palm Beach County in an uninsured motorist claim against Nationwide Insurance. Scoggins was a rear-seat passenger of a Chevrolet Camero driven by Brian McKennon that was involved in an automobile accident on September 12, 2001. McKennon was not insured – yet Scoggins was injured in the accident with both permanent back and leg injuries. “Mr. Scoggins contacted Nationwide as his auto insurance carrier. He had uninsured motorist coverage on his policy and had been seriously injured in the accident,” said Spencer Kuvin of Ricci~Leopold. After a five day trial a jury awarded Gerald Scoggins more than $2.3 million late Friday in the case. “Nationwide was not on Gerald Scoggins’s side,” said Ted Leopold. “They did not honor his policy and a jury understood the facts in this case and the extent of Mr. Scoggins’s injuries. Truth, justice and fairness prevailed in this matter,” he added. # # # |
