PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla.- The American Jewish Committee (AJC) presented nationally recognized attorney, Theodore J. Leopold, with the 2003 Judge Learned Hand Award on October 28, 2003 at PGA National Resort & Spa. The award was presented to Mr. Leopold in recognition of his lifelong commitment to the profession and his contributions to many of the institutions, which enhance the quality of life in Palm Beach County.

Theodore (Ted) J. Leopold is a partner at the West Palm Beach law firm of Ricci~Leopold, P.A. Leopold specializes in complex automotive crashworthiness, managed care and catastrophic injury litigation in Florida and around the United States. He is nationally recognized for his legal skills and has won multimillion verdicts for his clients.

"Ted Leopold joins one of the most distinguished groups of attorneys in America. We are privileged to honor Mr. Leopold with this years Learned Hand Award," said Dr. Sidney C. Cole, president of the Palm Beach County Chapter.

The keynote speaker for the award ceremony was Ann Brown, former chairwoman of U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Ms. Brown served in this capacity from March 1994 to November 2001. She was nominated to that position by former President William Clinton and confirmed by the U.S. Senate as a Commissioner and the seventh chairman of the CPSC. In 1999, President George Bush nominated Ms. Brown to a second term, and the Senate unanimously confirmed her reappointment.

The American Jewish Committee bestows the Judge Learned Hand Award to leaders in the legal profession who exemplify the thoughtful and humane spirit of Judge Learned Hand. Judge Hand served on the U.S. District Court of Appeals, Second Circuit for more than 25 years and was a distinguished jurist and scholar.
